The Beirut - Riyaq - Damascus line was shut down two years into the 1975-1990 civil war and Beirut's Mar Mikhael station and the railway stock there has since been left to decay. The station building itself still houses the offices of CEL and has recently been repaired. The larger part of the southern side of the station area has been taken over by the municipal busses as they are administered by the Ministry of Transport who also formally own the CEL.
